The 2013 CUNYAC/Pepsi Community College Championships would be a rematch from the year prior with #1 Queensborough Tigers taking on #2 Kingsborough Wave. Queensborough came in having won two of the last three titles while the Wave came in as defending champions.

Joycelyn Rolland led off the game with two kills that helped the Wave to an early 6-1 lead. Sloppy play would eliminate that lead and bring the game to 9-9. A 7-1 run by Kingsborough on the back of errors by Queensborough gave the Wave a commanding 18-12 lead. Queensborough would not stay down as they tied the game at 19. Well placed shots helped the Wave to a 25-21 win in set one.

"We were not really playing our game," said Queensborough's Angelica Aquino. "We just needed to calm down and play our game."

The second set began back-and-forth before an Aquino ace helped the Tigers get an 8-5 advantage. Strong play by Rolland would even the game at 10. A 6-1 run by the Tigers led by rookie setter Raluca Mosora would give Queensborough an 18-11 lead. The Wave chipped away with consistent play to bring the set to 24-22 before the Queensborough finished off the set 25-22 and evened the match.

With errors early in the third set, Queensborough was able to create a three-point cushion. The Tigers would expand their lead to 16-10 before one point threw Queensborough into a 3-point funk. Sophomore Lia Briffa energized the Tigers with an emphatic kill that helped Queensborough finish the set 25-19 and take a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth set, Queensborough came out on a 10-1 run to take a commanding lead. The Tigers would expand the lead with short runs before taking the set 25-13 to be crowned the 2013 CUNYAC/Pepsi Community College Women's Volleyball Champions 3-1.

"This was our goal from the beginning and I am so happy we reached it," said Queensborough Head Coach Jason Demas. "I have six seniors and they all played important parts and some of the freshman really stepped up too."

"It is really unbelieveable," said Sabrina Rodriguez. "We are a family. We really just needed to come together and play volleyball and we did it."

For the Tigers, it was a Angelica Aquino with 17 kills and 12 digs, Raluca Mosora with 26 assists, and Luverie Lumbera with 25 digs.
