The event, entitled, “Culture as Survival: Music and Theater in the Nazi Concentration Camps and Ghettos”, will feature two prominent scholars of cultural testimony from the Holocaust: Dr. Lisa Peschel, theater historiographer at the University of York, England, whose research has encompassed fellowships at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Center for Jewish Studies at Harvard University; and, Dr. Barbara Milewski, chair of the Department of Music and Dance at Swarthmore College, a former Fulbright scholar and research fellow at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. QCC students will be presenting side-by-side with the visiting scholars, reciting poetry authored by prisoners at Auschwitz, as well as performing dramatic excerpts of plays written by Jews in the Terezín ghetto.
