The Queensborough Tigers and Bronx Broncos advanced to the Finals of the 2014-15 CUNYAC Community College Women's Basketball Championships on Tuesday night. The Tigers used a dominant second half attack to cement their place in the Championship game and give themselves a chance to repeat as CUNYAC Champions. The Broncos never trailed in the game and held the LaGuardia Red Hawks to a mere 37 points. The teams will face each other in the CUNYAC Championship game for the second straight year.

#1 Queensborough Tigers 81, #4 Hostos Caimans 62

The Tigers got out to a fast start in the game, led by three Daomi Burch three-pointers in the game's first nine minutes. The freshman guard scored 11 of the team's first 19 points.

Hostos' Keshawna Weston kept up with the early scoring pace of Burch, however, potting 15 of her teams first 22 points and keeping the game close for the Caimans. A full-court charge and layup by Weston got the Caimans within 1 point of the Tigers at 31-30. A Queensborough pass was then stolen by Tabatha Vanegas, who rushed up the court and scored on a layup to put the #4 seed up 32-31 for their first lead of the game.

With the score tied 33-33, Weston got back to the line and netted a pair of free-throws to put the Caimans up 35-33. Khadija Carroll of Queensborough followed that up and knocked down a tough shot in traffic to tie the game at 35-35. With momentum slowly starting to shift back in Hostos' direction, Alanah McCray hit a free-throw and Erica Redwood ran the length of the court, hitting a key layup as time was expiring and putting the Tigers up 38-35 heading into halftime. Weston ended the half with a game-high 17 points, and Burch led the Tigers with 11 points.

The defending CUNYAC Champions weren't satisfied by being up only three points going into the second half. Led by Burch once again, The Tigers began the half with eight straight points, which were part of a 12-2 run that allowed them to open up a 13 point lead. After a pair of field goals, Burch hit yet another three point shot and Core Valentine hit a layup to extend the Tigers' lead to 21. CUNYAC's leading free-throw shooter Erica Redwood knocked down a shot to open up a game-high 23 point lead.

Hostos went on an 8-1 run with roughly four minutes remaining in the game, but the deficit proved to be insurmountable.

The Tigers dominated the second half of the game, outscoring the Caimans 43-27. Burch led the team with 22 points, followed by 19 points from the conference's leading rebounder Khadija Carroll. For her efforts, she was named Player of the Game.

"It feels amazing," said Burch. "As a freshman, I never thought it would happen. I knew we had to go hard or go home."

Keshawna Weston had a game-high 27 points in the losing effort for Hostos.
