Kersha Smith is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Queensborough Community College. A recipient of the Spencer Foundation’s Discipline-Based Studies in Education Fellowship, Dr. Smith is acknowledged for her work on critical pedagogy and transformative learning in non-traditional student populations. Dr. Smith brings together diverse voices around race and ethnicity and is co-editor of a collection of narrative essays, Uncommon Bonds: Women Reflect on Race and Friendship. In this conversation, Dr. Smith who contributes to The Urban Education Ph.D. Program at CUNY’s Graduate Center, talks about her latest project Black Heirlooms: The Unbroken Narratives of African American Families.
